Did You Know?
The BC Building and Fire Code requires a registered professional to approve design changes to a fire alarm or life safety system. This necessitates the involvement of an engineer
What You Need To Know
Installing a new Fire Alarm system, upgrading and existing Fire Alarm system, or just making a few changes, all involves a degree of design beforehand. There are a number of factors in each scenario that need to be considered. With fire alarm systems in new buildings, one has to know the current code requirements. One also has to have an understanding of the type of system that is being installed, for instance is it a conventional or addressable system? How will it be wired? What brand of Fire Alarm system is being installed?

Contact UsFor a system upgrade one has to consider a number of factors such as is one altering the entire system or just a portion? Are devices being added? What type of devices are being added? How many are being added? Can the existing Fire Alarm panel accommodate the new devices being considered? Are the new devices compatible? Will any alterations to the system allow it to continue to operate as intended and meet all code requirements?
Questions like this need to be considered and answered before any work is done to a fire alarm system. If proper design criterias are not met beforehand and/or the system does not operate correctly after the alterations are installed, the Fire Alarm system may not operate correctly in the event of an alarm and the consequences could be fatal. Therefore it is critical that the correct procedures are followed.
